Lower Cascades Waterfall, Hanging Rock State Park
A park ranger told us the Lower Cascades was the prettiest of all waterfalls at Hanging Rock State Park and that, though seeing it required leaving the main park area and driving to it, it was well worth it. After seeing it, we agreed. Our photos don’t do it justice.
- If you missed it, see our main page about Hanging Rock State Park.
The Lower Cascades Trail is only 0.4 mile and easy. It leads to a wide open area with two small waterfalls.
The trail leads through a flat wooded area between split-rail fences and then down a long wooden stairway.
The Lower Cascades Trail continues to the water’s edge.
And once at the water’s edge, you reap your reward …
The Lower Cascades Falls parking lot is at 2143 Hall Road (State Road 2012). From the main park entrance, drive north on Hanging Park Road and turn left onto Moore’s Springs Road. Hall Road is the first right. Stay to the right at C.C. Camp Road and look for the parking lot on the right.
Be sure to see our main Hanging Rock State Park page and pages about Hanging Rock’s other waterfalls and two primary hikes:

- Hanging Rock Trail
- Moore’s Wall Loop Trail
Hanging Rock is in Danbury, north of Winston-Salem in Stokes County off of N.C. 66 and N.C. 8 / 89.
