The Pisgah Inn features private balconies, a large observation deck and a small lawn on a ridge overlooking the Pisgah National Forest toward Brevard and the Davidson River area. The Mount Pisgah recreation area, at Milepost 408 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, also has a restaurant, a convenience store, a campground, picnic grounds, several trails and additional overlooks.

At an elevation of 5,000 feet, it is the highest developed area on the Parkway.

The inn has 51 rooms and a suite, and it and the restaurant are open April 1 to October 31. The Pisgah Inn and the lodge at Peaks of Otter in Virginia are the only two lodges remaining on the Parkway.

You can pick up connectors to several trails at the far end of the inn parking lot, including the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, and the 16.3-mile Shut-In Trail, and about a mile away, the 1.6-mile Mount Pisgah Trail.

We stayed in Chewink, one of three buildings, on a late-August weekend in 2018. Each room has a private balcony overlooking the valley below.

In 2016, the inn opened an enlarged observation deck, which is designed to provide individual viewing areas on two levels. It is at the rear of the building that houses the restaurant and gift shop, and is served by the bar through a window, which makes it a perfect place to wait for your table.

A reservations manager told us that guests who have stayed at the Pisgah Inn during the peak of fall leaf colors each October book their stays for the following year as they check out. The Inn sends reservation reminders three weeks ahead of time, making the best time to contact the Inn about an October cancellation about three weeks before when you’d like to visit.

The Mount Pisgah recreation area is between BRP MP 407 and 410 near N.C. 151 south of Asheville.
