Quarry Trail, Morrow Mountain State Park

The Quarry Trail at Morrow Mountain State Park is not quite a loop off of the parking lot for the park’s swimming pool and main picnic grounds. One trailhead is marked with a sign at the parking lot near picnic shelter B and, several yards away, the other entrance to the trail is a paved sidewalk that passes picnic shelter C and men’s and women’s restrooms.

The highlight of the easy 0.6-mile walk is noticing that you are within the walls of the Civilian Conservation Corps rock quarry, which supplied many of the rocks used to construct the park’s buildings, curbs and walls.

A bridge over the pond that formed from excavations offers a close-up view of another wall of the quarry.

Another curiosity of the Quarry Trail is a CCC-constructed barbecue pit.

The Quarry Trail is part of the parks system’s Kids in Parks Track Trails program, which offers brochures matched to signs along the trail for kids to find.
