Three Rivers Trail, Morrow Mountain State Park
Pick up a short walk on the Three Rivers Trail in the parking lot for boat rentals, boat ramp and the riverfront picnic area of Morrow Mountain State Park. The trail is named for the point at which the Uwharrie River meets the Yadkin River and the Yadkin River becomes known as the Pee Dee River.
The arm from the parking lot crosses the road and heads back into the woods before splitting for the loop. The area encompasses a floodplain, where trees such as river birch and sycamore can be found, and a ridge dominated by trees from the Chestnut oak and American beech communities.
The 0.08-mile walk is easy, but made a bit tougher if you turn to the right at the fork and quickly find you are ascending the ridge. The other end of the ridge ascends much more gently and is hardly noticable going down.
Among the river views are this sight looking south along the Pee Dee.
Walking counterclockwise offers this first view of a large group of elephant ear (arum) plants along the bank of the river.
