Eno River State Park — Fews Ford

Here are some photos from a morning walk at the Fews Ford Access Area, one of five sections of Eno River State Park.

The waters of the Eno are shallow, providing several spots for wading.

The kid above was just off the Fews Ford trail access. The kids below were swimming just a few yards upstream.

The Buckquarter Creek/Holden Mill trails’ figure-eight loop takes you through a lush level forest and then up over a ridge and through a powerline easement before turning back along the river, where the banks are rocky and sometimes steep. The fallen logs on the river at the top of the page were just beyond the creek at the center of the figure-eight if you’re heading back to the trailhead at Fews Ford.

A trail from the Cole Mill picnic area leads to the suspension bridge on the route to group camping sites and the Cox Mill Trail, which the parks division calls “a challenging climb through a scenic hardwood forest.”

Hurricane Fran left memories for everyone in the Triangle.

A couple of boys on the bridge seen from the river below.

Eno River State Park is in Orange and Durham counties, east of Hillsborough. The Fews Ford Access is off of U.S. 70 at Pleasant Green Road north, then to the left on Cole Mill Road.
