North Carolina State Park Camping

Camping is available at many North Carolina state parks, typically for RVs as well as tents. Several parks have camper cabins, which do not have plumbing. Hanging Rock State Park and Morrow Mountain State Park have vacation cabins, which have bathrooms and kitchens.  Singletary Lake State Park in Kelly is specifically designed for cabin camping by recognizable non-profit groups. South Mountains State Park in Connelly has 15 equestrian campsites and a 37-stall horse barn.

Park names below link to their pages on the state reservations system. The phone number is 877-7-CAMP-NC or 877-722-6762. Some campsites are available for walk-in reservations. Prices quoted (as available) are per night. Some campgrounds, particularly in the mountains, may close in winter.

In December 2023, North Carolina state parks established a systemwide camping check-in time of 3 p.m. and check-out time of 12 p.m. The policy applies to all overnight reservations, including tent, trailer, RV campsites, group campsites, equestrian campsites, paddle-in campsites, backpacking campsites, and camper cabins. The only exceptions are the overnight facilities at Haw River State Park and the vacation cabins at Hanging Rock and Morrow Mountain state parks.

Unless specified below, drinking water and electricity are nearby when listed but are not at individual campsites. Bathhouses (flush toilets and hot showers) are also nearby when listed; “accessible” means a longer walk.
